Regulation on 2019 President Scholarship for International Students of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics

(The Chinese text of this regulation shall be deemed the original. In the event of any dispute or misunderstanding as to the interpretation of the language or terms in this article, the Chinese language version shall be the only document consulted.)

The President Scholarship for International Students of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (hereinafter referred to as SWUFE) is set to enhance the friendship between Chinese people and other people from all countries, promote world-wide exchanges of economy and culture, encourage and help those international students, who perform well both morally and academically, and learn diligently to form a positive learning environment.

1. Scholarship Details

(1) SWUFE provides Full Scholarship and Partial Scholarship.

A. Full Scholarship includes tuition, accommodation on campus, living allowance, and international student comprehensive medical insurance. Details are as follows:

a)  Tuition: Waived

b) Dormitory fee on campus: waived

c) Living allowance: RMB1200/month for bachelor students, RMB1500/month for master students and RMB1800/month for PhD students.

B. Partial Scholarship only includes tuition.

(2) Availability of scholarship is merit-based. According to the situation of effective application, quota and type of scholarships are decided by CIE each year.

2. Application Deadline

Applications are accepted between January 15 and April 30 each year.

3. Eligibility

(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, be in good health, abide by the laws and regulations of Chinese Government and local government, as well as regulations of SWUFE.

(2)Education background:

A. Applicants for bachelor degree studies must have a graduate certificate from high schools

B. Applicants for master's degree studies must have a bachelor's degree

C. Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master's degree

(3)Applicants must meet all requirements of the majors, including academic level, research ability, language level and others.

(4)The maximum age of applicants is 30 years of age for bachelor's degree program, 35 years of age for Master's degree program, and 40 years of age for PhD program;

(5Applicants are not sponsored by any other type of scholarship.

(6)For bachelor’s degree program applicants who have given up their original Chinese citizenship and become foreign citizens, residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries and are applying to SWUFE as international students must present valid passport or citizenship documents dating before April 30th 2014, along with proof of residence abroad of at least 2 years between April 30th 2014 to the application deadline (9 months of residence abroad per year may be considered as one year).

4. Minimum Language Requirement

(1) Chinese-Taught Program: HSK certificate (HSK 4), or pass the school exam. Applicants whose first language is Chinese do not need to provide language level certificate.

(2) English-Taught Program: IELTS certificate or TOFEL certificate (IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 95), or pass the school exam. Applicants whose first language is English do not need to provide language level certificate.

5. Academic Programs and Teaching Language

Please check the programs list and the language of programs in attachment 1.

6. Application documents

Applicants shall all submit online application at before April 30, 2019 and upload all documents required as below:

(1) One passport photo taken within 6 months

(2) Highest educational degree or diploma certificate

(3) Highest educational transcript

(4) First page of your passport

(5) Two Recommendation Letters

The referee should be professor or associate professor or person with relevant academic title.

(6) The copy of language certificate

(7) Medical Examination Report Attachment 2, Within 6 months

(8) Other Optional documents

Important Notes:

All documents should be presented in English or Chinese. If not, a notarized translation version in English or Chinese is mandatory. Documents without translation in English or Chinese are not valid.  

If necessary, Admission Office will require applicants to submit extra documents.

7. Application Procedures

(1)Register and login application website

(2)Complete and upload all required documents at online application website. Please combine other supporting documents into one PDF File and upload to the position of Reference Letter (see instruction in the picture below).


(3)Fill out Financial Supporter as “SWUFE President Scholarship

(4)Submit Online Application

(5)After you submit your application, you need to pay application fee RMB 600 online.

8. Application Fee

(1) Application fee is 600 RMB. If you want to make the payment online, please follow the instruction at application website.

(2)Application without paying application fee will not be processed.

(3)Application fee is not refunded under any circumstances.

9. Admission

(1)After review applicants’ application form and supporting documents, CIE Admission Office will inform applicants the admission results.

(2)Applicants may check admission results via the online application system.

(3)If applicants are awarded, CIE will send email to inform awardees the result. CIE Admission Office is responsible for issuing Admission Letter and Visa documents.

10. Registration

Registration Date for students is usually in September. Please refer to exact Registration Date that will be stated in Admission Letter. Please register on time. For those who do not register on time as requested in Admission Letter, SWUFE reserves the right to withdraw the admission offer and scholarship offer.

12. Other Notes

(1)International students who have been granted the scholarship are required to complete the Scholarship Annual Review Form, and submit together with supplementary materials, such as transcripts, certificates of awards, letters of recommendation and publications, to CIE before May 1st each year. If students fail the annual review, SWUFE CIE reserves the right to suspend the scholarship, or lower the standard of scholarship, or terminate scholarship.

(2)CIE does not explain any reason to applicants if their applications are not approved.

(3)SWUFE CIE does not accept any application from the third party. Applicants please apply from CIE directly for this type of scholarship.  

(4)Language requirements are basic requirement but not the only requirement. CIE will use the merit-based principle. If the applicants’ first language is English and apply for English-taught programs, applicants are not required to provide us English language proficiency certificate.

(5)The content above is subject to change based on change of China laws and regulations in 2019.

13. Formal Complaint

If the applicant is dissatisfied with the response received from the Admissions Office, he/she should submit a written complaint to us via E-mail.
