Overview

Chengdu is located in the central part of Sichuan Province, China. It is the capital of Sichuan Province, a sub-provincial city, and a national central city. Chengdu is the logistics, commerce, finance, technology, culture, education center, and transportation and communication hub in Southwest China. It is also one of the first batch of “National Historical and Cultural Cities”. Chengdu is known as the "Land of Abundance", and is one of the cities that developed earlier and prospered for a long time in China.

   

Culture

Chengdu is one of the first batch of “National Historical and Cultural Cities” and the birthplace of ancient Shu civilization. The Jinsha site in the city has a history of 3,000 years. With Dujiangyan, Wuhou Temple, Du Fu Thatched Cottage and other historical sites, Chengdu has been awarded the "Best Tourist City in China". Chengdu is the hometown of giant pandas and has the only giant panda breeding research base. Sichuan cuisine is one of the four major cuisines in China, and has been awarded the title of "World Food Capital" by UNESCO.

   

Economy

Chengdu, as the core city of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, has ranked seventh in the country in terms of urban GDP since 2019, and ranked 35th in the "Global Financial Center City". 377 of "Fortune 500" companies have settled in Chengdu, ranking first in the central and western cities.

   

Globalization

In 2019, the permanent foreign population in Chengdu reached 17,400. In 2022, a total of 22 countries have established national consular institutions, ranking third in the country. Chengdu has 104 sister cities and cities with friendly cooperative relations, and is the venue for the 31st FISU World University Games.

   

Transportation

Chengdu is an important aviation hub city in western China, with two international airports and 126 international routes. Since January 1, 2019, Chengdu has implemented a 144-hour transit visa-free policy for foreigners.

The public transportation in Chengdu is mainly bus, rail transit and taxi. Chengdu currently has more than 500 bus lines and more than ten BRT express bus lines. As of 2022, Chengdu Metro has built a subway network with 12 lines and a total length of 518km.
